- In a Tuesday, Dec. 2 post shared on X, Carpenter called the video and the use of her song in it “evil and disgusting”
Sabrina Carpenter does not support the Donald Trump administration using her music.
During her Short n’ Sweet Tour, the pop star, 26, would playfully “arrest” someone from the crowd (often a celebrity) while she performed her 2024 song “Juno.”
On Monday, Dec. 1, the track was used to soundtrack a video shared by the Trump administration promoting ICE arrests.
“Have you ever tried this one? Bye-bye,” The White House account wrote on X, referencing a lyric from the track.
Carpenter slammed the Trump administration for using “Juno” to promote ICE arrests in an X post on Tuesday, Dec. 2: “this video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.”
In a statement shared with PEOPLE on Dec. 2, Abigail Jackson, a White House spokesperson, said, “Here’s a Short n’ Sweet message for Sabrina Carpenter: we won’t apologize for deporting dangerous criminal illegal murderers, rapists, and pedophiles from our country. Anyone who would defend these sick monsters must be stupid, or is it slow?”
While Carpenter appeared to not give permission to The White House to use “Juno” and publicly condemned the use of the song in the footage, it’s unclear if she will pursue any further action.
Several artists have shared their frustration with Trump using their music to promote his campaigns including Céline Dion, Bruce Springsteen, Linkin Park, Neil Young and more.
Last month, Olivia Rodrigo condemned the use of her music to promote the Trump administration’s policies after The White House and DHS used “All-American Bitch” for a video about self-deportation, per Rolling Stone.
In the footage, ICE agents could be seen detaining undocumented immigrants, with the caption “If ICE finds you, LEAVE NOW and self-deport using the CBP Home app. If you don’t, you will face the consequences.”
The comment from Rodrigo, 22, which has since been deleted per the outlet, read: “Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.”
At the time, a DHS spokesperson shared a statement with Rolling Stone that read, “America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe. We suggest Ms. Rodrigo thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice.””
