Shania Twain reveals side effects of doing ‘unhealthy things’ to ‘be thinner’ during Vegas residency
Shania Twain recalled doing “unhealthy things” to become “thinner” during her 2019 Las Vegas residency.
The “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” singer said she went through a period of time when she didn’t like how her body looked.
“I stopped looking at myself in the mirror. I hated my body,” she told the Times in a new interview published Sunday.
“I’m, like, ‘Oh, I cannot stand this changing body.’ But that was so unhealthy,” Twain, 60, added. “Who cannot look at themselves in the mirror?”
The five-time Grammy winner said her body began to change as she aged, despite her maintaining her normal routines.
“So, all of a sudden, I’m bloating and I’m definitely not in control,” Twain recalled. “I can’t just lose five pounds.”
The weight gain prompted the country singer to do “very unhealthy things.”
“I was working my body more than I was feeding it to keep up with the strain,” she told the outlet.
However, Twain’s grueling routine “to be thinner” led her to be “malnourished” and aided in her injuring herself while onstage.
The “You’re Still The One” songstress now thanks menopause for her new outlook on her body.
“Now I’m like, bring on the mirrors, I’m going to look at myself all day long!” she told the Times. “Menopause has been very good for me because I’ve learned that some things you cannot control.”
Twain has been candid about loving her body as she ages.
In 2022, the country music star said that showing off her “new body” as she gets older has been “liberating” after ditching her top for the cover of her single “Waking Up Dreaming.”
“This is me expressing my truth. I’m comfortable in my own skin, and this is the way I am sharing that confidence,” she told People at the time, adding that anything is “fashionable” if it’s worn with “confidence.”
“I am a woman in my late 50s, and I don’t need to hide behind the clothes. I can’t even tell you how good it felt to do nude shooting,” Twain added.
“I was just so unashamed of my new body, you know, as a woman [who] is well into my menopause. I’m not even emotional about it; I just feel OK about it.”
