Sofia Richie included a sweet nod to husband Elliot Grainge’s late mom in baby girl’s name

Sofia Richie is honoring her late mother-in-law.

Richie revealed via Instagram on Friday that she and her husband, Elliot Grainge, welcomed their first baby together earlier this week, and the little girl’s name includes a nod to Grainge’s mom.

“Eloise Samantha Grainge 🤍5•20•24 best day of my life🤍,” the new mom, 25, captioned a black and white photo of her little baby’s toes.

The baby’s middle name is a sweet reference to Elliot’s late mother, Samantha Berg, who suffered complications during childbirth. Those complications led to a coma, which she remained in until her death in 2007.

Richie and Grainge first announced their pregnancy news in January after months of keeping the baby news quiet.

The model told Vogue in an interview at the time that they chose to hide her pregnancy to “protect our mental health and our space as a couple.”

She also debuted her baby bump at the time on Instagram with a photo from her Vogue shoot.

“Our hearts are filled with so much love! So thankful for all of your support! Can’t wait for this next chapter of life,” she said.

Her famous father, Lionel Richie, has also shown his excitement for the new baby since the happy couple announced their expecting news.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the “American Idol” judge, who refuses to go by the title of “grandpa,” told the outlet he was “thrilled” that his “baby is having a baby.”

“They are just over the moon,” he said of the couple.

Lionel is also grandfather to daughter Nicole Richie’s two children, Harlow and Sparrow, whom she shares with husband Joel Madden.

Sofia and Elliot went public with their relationship in April 2021.

The fashion designer gushed about their love story months later in August, telling Who What Wear that she “knew when we started dating that he was my husband.”

“When we started being romantic, he just gave me a different feeling,” she recalled. “It was a feeling of safety. It was the feeling of really being appreciated.”

The music executive popped the question in April 2022.

They tied the knot in France the following year.

Sofia’s father was present for the chic ceremony, among other A-list celebrities, to walk her down the aisle.
