Sydney Sweeney’s voter registration revealed after American Eagle ‘great jeans’ backlash

Sydney Sweeney’s voter registration has been revealed days after her controversial American Eagle jeans campaign was released.
According to public voter records viewed by The Post, the “Euphoria” actress has been registered with the Republican Party of Florida in Monroe County since June 2024.
Page Six has reached out to reps for Sweeney for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Discussions about Sweeney’s political ties came as she and American Eagle have come under fire for their ad, which social media users claimed promoted “Nazi propaganda.”
In one of the ads, the 27-year-old actress, dressed in full denim, walked toward an American Eagle billboard and painted over it.
The word “genes” was crossed out with a white line to be corrected to “jeans.”
In another one of the campaign videos, the “Anyone But You” actress could be seen zipping up and buttoning her jeans while lying down.
Sweeney then talked about how genes that are passed from parent to offspring often determine traits such as “hair color, personality and even eye color.”
The two-time Emmy nominee, who has blue eyes, ended the video by looking at the camera and saying, “My jeans are blue.”
Several TikTok users called out the ad for allegedly being “Nazi propaganda” and a “racialized dog whistle,” arguing that it praised Sweeney’s genetic traits.
“This just echoes pseudoscientific language of racial superiority. All throughout history, those traits have been weaponized to uphold a racial hierarchy,” said one TikTokker.
After backlash from fans and being mocked by celebrities such as Doja Cat and Lizzo, American Eagle released a statement.
“‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans,” the company said in a press release obtained by Page Six Style Friday.
The fashion brand added that it’s “Her jeans. Her story.”
“We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way,” the statement continued, before concluding, “Great jeans look good on everyone.”
While Sweeney has remained mum on the backlash, this hasn’t been her first time being accused of being conservative.
In 2022, the “Madame Web” star was criticized after her family threw a 60th birthday party for her mother, where attendees wore red caps that read, “Make Sixty Great Again,” and “Blue Lives Matter” shirts.
In response, Sweeney tweeted at the time that the “innocent celebration” was “turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention.”
“Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!” she added.
The “White Lotus” alum later suggested in an interview with Variety that the people who wore the MAGA-style hats were her “mom’s friends” who simply thought “it would be funny.”
