Tracy Morgan doesn’t have a favorite New York Knicks player, but crowned MVP Jalen Brunson the “King of New York.”
The “30 Rock” alum, 57, spoke to Page Six exclusively less than 48 hours after the Knicks won the NBA Finals, 4-1, against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.
“I can’t pick anyone out because everyone had a part in it,” Morgan told us, “the coaching staff, everyone had a part in it, so I won’t do that. I won’t single anyone out, but Brunson [the team captain] is the King of New York right now. The people have spoken.”
The comedian likened him to a Ghostbuster and began singing the 1984 movie’s iconic theme song.
“There’s something strange in your neighborhood. Who you gonna call? Jalen Brunson!”
The star of “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” shared that he feels “incredible right now” and shed many tears on Saturday night after the Knicks’ victory.
“I broke down a lot,” he confessed. “I wasn’t the only one. Everyone in there was. Fifty-three years [the last time the Knicks won the championship was in 1973], everyone let it all out, everyone felt joyful, they were tears of joy.”
It wasn’t the first time he shed tears.
Video of Morgan getting teary after the Knicks’ spectacular come-from-behind Game 4 win is all over social media.
Morgan added that his untempered joy is also for New York City.
“It means we’re over the hump,” he explained. “The curse is over, and this is the first time in a long time that I’ve really seen the city happy,” noting that the city has been “through a lot” the last couple of decades with 9/11 and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’ve been through a lot, and we have something to really, really be proud of,” he said.
Although he has been a fixture on “Celebrity Row,” Morgan demurred when Page Six called him a “superfan.”
“The superfans are the ones sitting way up there,” he countered. “The real fans are way up there.”
The “SNL” alum hopes to be part of the parade this coming Thursday.
“Right now I’m still processing everything, and hopefully I’ll go to the parade,” he revealed, “I want to be a part of it. I want to be a part of the people. Hopefully I’ll be there with my family.”
