Video Emerges From the Arrest of Chiefs’ Eric Bieniemy’s Son After He Allegedly Shot His Mother

Video captured the moment Elijah Bieniemy, the son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was taken into custody after allegedly shooting his mother. 

In the dramatic footage, obtained by 7News, cops can be seen running through the area near the Bieniemy family home in Ashburn, Virginia, with at least one officer brandishing a huge rifle.

Moments after authorities secure the residence, Elijah, 27, can be seen getting placed in handcuffs up against a police vehicle. 

Elijah was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling on Sunday, July 26, according to a press release from the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond. 

Mia Bieniemy, Elijah’s mother, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. 

Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman told reporters on Monday, July 27, that Mia, 57, called 911 herself to report the shooting. 

“I’ll just say she was shot multiple times, and we have to go through an entire investigation to determine where everybody was, what they did, what prompted it and how it all transpired,” Chapman said. “We’re conducting that investigation right now.”

ESPN reported on Monday morning that Mia was in “stable” condition, which Chiefs head coach Andy Reid backed up in a press conference shortly after. 

“Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family,” Reid, 68, said at the Chiefs’ practice facility in St. Joseph, Missouri. “Thoughts and prayers are with them. I can’t get into details on it, but things happen sometimes. Eric will work through it. He’s got a great support group here, as does his family, as needed. We’ll let time take care of it from there.”

Eric, 56, was at the Chiefs’ facility at the time of the shooting. He left St. Joseph to be with his family after being made aware of the shooting. Reid said there is no timetable for Eric’s return to the team. 

In a statement to Us on Monday, the Chiefs said that they are “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family.”

“Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time,” the team said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

Eric rejoined the Chiefs in January 2025 after the organization moved on from previous offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Eric was on the Chiefs’ coaching staff from 2013 to 2022. 

The Chiefs officially open training camp on Wednesday, July 29.
