Who is Rupert Finch? Meet Kate Middleton’s ex boyfriend

Kate Middleton ran into her ex Rupert Finch, whom she dated in college, in June 2026.

The exes both attended Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s wedding in the Cotswolds. Middleton attended with her husband, Prince William, who is cousins with Phillips. Finch attended with his wife, Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs.

Finch and Middleton met at the University of St. Andrews

Middleton and Finch met while she was a freshman at St. Andrews and he was a senior, according to Tatler.

They dated for almost a year in 2001.

An aspiring lawyer at the time, he was reportedly Middleton’s “casual boyfriend” and “considered the ultimate catch by Kate’s friends.”

He’s a successful lawyer

Finch did become a lawyer after graduating from the College of Law, and according to his LinkedIn, he has a “demonstrated history of working in the advance materials, chemicals, automotive, battery, fuel cell, life science and medical components sectors.”

He is also experienced in “social impact businesses in the luxury retail center.”

He and Middleton are still on good terms

Finch attended Middleton’s 2011 royal wedding to William, suggesting there is no bad blood between them.

He got married in 2013

Finch married Isaacs — an English aristocrat who’s the daughter of Simon Rufus Isaacs, 4th Marquess of Reading, and Melinda Victoria Rufus Isaacs — in 2013 at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Cirencester. 

Isaacs made a name for herself as a fashion designer and co-founded the British fashion brand Beulah London. The luxury brand is dedicated to empowering vulnerable and trafficked women.

Middleton has supported the label, wearing Isaacs’ designs over the years.

Isaacs praised Middleton in a 2020 interview with Hello!.

“It’s always lovely to see the Duchess in Beulah,” she said. “She’s a wonderful ambassador for British brands and that is more important than ever at the moment.”

He has three daughters

Finch and Isaacs have three daughters together: Georgia, born 2015, Cienna, born 2017, and India Grace Albertine, born in 2020.

Isaacs told Hello! that she and Finch were likely finished adding to their family after welcoming India.

“I’m one of three children myself, I definitely think three is enough and Rupert would agree,” she told the outlet. “But who knows? It’s such a blessing to be able to have three.”
