Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton were both ‘crying their eyes out’ over bridesmaid dress disaster, royal staffer reveals
Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton were allegedly both in tears after fighting over Princess Charlotte’s dress for the Duchess of Sussex’s 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.
A royal staffer claimed that the now sisters-in-law made each other cry over the dispute in Tom Quinn’s new book, “Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants.”
“I can tell you that all the papers and commentators got this wrong,” the anonymous staffer told the royal biographer. “The truth is that as with many of these spats between sisters, brothers or even sisters-in-law, both sides were really upset.”
The staffer explained that both ladies were left “crying their eyes out.”
“The truth is that during the discussions about the bridesmaid’s dress, Meghan said a few things she regretted and Kate said a few things she later regretted, but it was all in the heat of the moment,” the insider said.
After Markle and Harry said “I do,” rumors of a rift between the former actress and the Princess of Wales began to swirl.
Tabloids at the time reported that Markle made Middleton cry over the tailoring of the latter’s daughter’s dress.
In 2021, Markle addressed the gossip during a bombshell sit-down with Oprah Winfrey by claiming that it was actually Middleton who made her cry.
“The reverse happened,” Markle said, adding that “everyone in the institution knew [the reports weren’t] true.”
Markle then questioned why no one in the royal family denied the rift reports between her and Prince William’s wife.
The “Suits” alum, 43, didn’t share too many details of the incident but noted the argument was about her wedding’s flower girl dresses and “really hurt [her] feelings.”
“There wasn’t a confrontation,” Markle claimed. “I don’t think it’s fair to her to get into the details because [Middleton] apologized, and I’ve forgiven her.”
The As Ever founder explained that it was “a really hard week” leading up to the wedding and that Middleton, 43, was “upset about something.”
“But she owned it, and she apologized, and she brought me flowers and a note, apologizing,” Markle said of Middleton before calling her a “good person.”
“If you love me, you don’t have to hate her. And if you love her, you don’t need to hate me,” she said.
Markle and Middleton are on the outs as their respective husbands continue to be estranged after the Sussexes exited their royal responsibilities in 2020 and moved to California.
