Candace Cameron Bure’s son helped actress ‘make it’ through ‘rough season’ of marriage
Candace Cameron Bure and Valeri Bure’s eldest child helped the couple’s marriage go the distance.
The “Full House” alum, 49, admitted during her eponymous podcast Tuesday that her relationship endured a “really, really rough season” in 2020.
In fact, the actress and Valeri, 51, didn’t “think … [they] were gonna make it through” as things “went south.”
However, their 25-year-old son, Lev, “preached, like, a 45-minute sermon on marriage to” his parents in a “calm voice that had so much wisdom behind it.”
Candace recalled, “[He] just had his Bible open on the couch and just talked about it. … I’ll never forget.
“He said, ‘You know, I know I haven’t been married. I’m just a young kid. And so it’s probably hard to take marriage advice from someone this young [who] never experienced it before. But I don’t need to be married to know what the word of God says,’” she remembered.
Lev, notably, has been married since January 2024 to wife Elliot Dunham.
Candace and Valeri — whose daughter Natasha, 26, and son Maksim, 23, were also present for the conversation — “walked away” from the “pivotal” talk thinking they “raised some pretty good kids.”
The former “View” co-host did not divulge any details regarding what led to the strain in her marriage.
The pair wed in June 1996 in California.
When they celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2021, Candace spilled their secret to staying strong via Instagram.
She credited “communication (which is so important but difficult when one partner isn’t willing),” as well as “sex,” “laughter” and “lots of patience.”
The “Dancing With the Stars” alum’s final key to success was “love,” with her clarifying that the “verb … must be put into action [because] it’s not just a feeling.”
Candace also noted that her and the retired hockey player’s romance is “certainly” not “picture perfect.”
She concluded, “But through thick and thin, ups and downs, God has blessed us tremendously with guidance and perseverance. I believe God is the secret sauce.”
The “Aurora Teagarden” star often speaks candidly about her relationship on both her podcast and on social media, a behavior her partner scolded her for in a Us Weekly interview last year.
When Candace described her ideal date night as a “great restaurant, wine, [a] walk [and] sex,” Valeri asked, “Who does this? … You cannot say that!”
His wife quipped that her comments also “annoy [her] children.”
