Wonder Man Ending Explained: Did Simon’s Secret Get Out?
NEED TO KNOW
- Wonder Man follows aspiring actor Simon Williams as he takes on the lead role in the Wonder Man movie remake
- Simon forms a close friendship with his colleague, Trevor Slattery
- Both Simon and Trevor keep their secrets close to their chest until everything unravels in the final two episodes
Wonder Man initially appears to be a tale about remaking a beloved superhero film, but everything changes when a world of lies and twisted truths unfolds.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) limited series, which premiered all eight episodes on Disney+ on Jan. 27, stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a struggling actor desperate to score a role in the reboot of his favorite superhero film, Wonder Man. Along the way, he becomes close with his colleague Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley).
As the two actors work together, they eventually learn that both of them have secrets. Simon is trying to blend in while suppressing his secret power to bend and manipulate ionic energy while Trevor’s true purpose for acting in Wonder Man isn’t just about rehabilitating his image.
“What I like about what we’re doing here is that we’re telling a story about an everyday joe. He’s a guy who has superpowers, but he doesn’t want anyone to know. Simon wants to be seen as an actor,” Abdul-Mateen II told Esquire in January 2026. “I really appreciate that Marvel has the guts to put out a show that doesn’t look like Avengers, that doesn’t look like anything else in the MCU. We shot it indie style. It’s set in a world that looks like the world outside your door.”
Here’s everything to know about how Wonder Man ends.
Warning: Wonder Man season 1 spoilers below!
Who takes the blame for the explosion?
After Simon forms a close relationship with Trevor on the set of the Wonder Man reboot, he discovers the devastating truth that his friend isn’t just another actor. Simon finds out that Trevor was sent by the Department of Damage Control (DODC) to gather information on him after the organization began suspecting that he possessed superhuman powers.
The revelation leaves Simon feeling betrayed and upset, and he accidentally loses control over his powers. In a fit of rage, he unleashes all of his ionic energy and causes a massive explosion on set.
Even though nobody was hurt, someone still needs to be held accountable for the explosion, and the DODC suspects that Simon is to blame. The actor also assumes that his time as a free man is up so he calls his mom to say goodbye. However, right before it appears that Simon is about to be taken into custody, he gets an ambiguous call from Trevor.
“I’ll never forgive myself for what I did to you, but I’m making it right,” Trevor told him on the phone. “Promise me you’ll live your life to the fullest.”
Simon turns on the news and sees that Trevor has not only taken the fall for the explosion, but that he’s also reprised his role as The Mandarin — Iron Man’s archenemy and a terrorist he pretended to be in Iron Man 3.
Trevor is arrested for the explosion and maintains that he was acting as The Mandarin the entire time. Even though the DODC — including Trevor’s handler, Agent Cleary (Arian Moayed) — don’t seem totally convinced, they take him into custody and accept his claims.
What happens to Simon and Trevor?
With Trevor taking responsibility for the explosion and leaving the DODC without a mole, Wonder Man continues production. Simon returns to set in the lead role and is shown attending the premiere and even discussing a potential sequel.
However, his normal life gets interrupted when he meets a man named Chuck Eastman (Blake Robbins), who’s the the subject of a new movie that Simon is starring in. Before he knows it, Chuck tells Simon that he’s managed to grant him clearance to his workplace.
As it turns out, Chuck is actually a security guard at the DODC facility, and he has come up with a plan to let Simon into the building, dressed as a fellow security guard. Simon overhears a conversation amongst agents debating what to do with him and his ionic energy powers and calling him “an extraordinary threat … or asset.”
Simon convinces Chuck to let him walk through the DODC by himself, and it doesn’t take long for him to find Trevor in a cell. Simon and Trevor put the past behind them in an emotional moment, and Simon uses his ionic energy to rip off the bars and set Trevor free.
How does Wonder Man end?
In the final few scenes of Wonder Man, Simon unleashes his powers to tear off Trevor’s cell bars and release him. Despite both of them being trapped in the highly-guarded DODC facility, Simon manipulates the roof to open.
He grabs Trevor, and the two blast off into the sky. At the same time, Agent Cleary has just relayed to his colleagues that he believes Simon is more dangerous than they originally thought. With the alarms blaring, the DODC agents discover the hole in the ceiling and see Simon and Trevor escaping into the night.
The final moments resolve how Simon and Trevor repaired their friendship, but the series also ends on an ambiguous note. Both Simon’s future and the purpose of the DODC is up in the air.
Does Wonder Man have a post-credits scene?
As MCU fans are well aware, dozens of the superhero movies and TV shows include post-credits scenes that tease upcoming projects and storylines. However, Wonder Man did not include a post-credits scene.
In addition to Wonder Man, other recent MCU projects — including Eyes of Wakanda and Marvel Zombies — have also opted out of the tradition.
Where can I watch Wonder Man?
All eight episodes of Wonder Man are available to stream on Disney+. The limited series released all episodes on Jan. 27 at 9 p.m. ET.
