Collin Gosselin vows to expose ‘dark’ childhood with Jon, Kate in bombshell memoir reveal
Collin Gosselin is set to expose “the shocking facade of his picture-perfect family” in a bombshell memoir this fall.
Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin’s son’s tell-all, “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood,” will hit bookshelves on Oct. 13.
The book’s description, shared by the publisher Tuesday, promises to share the “never-before-told story of how [Collin] escaped and found his way back from the dark.”
The statement continued, “This is a reckoning with the dark side of fame: the systems, the entourage, and the institutions that allowed one boy to be erased.”
In the text, the 22-year-old will revisit “being held down, the basement cell where he was hidden for years and the cocktail of powerful antipsychotics forced on an 11-year-old boy.”
The announcement also teased a “Christmas morning where the gifts were reclaimed as soon as the cameras went down.”
The cover, notably, features a throwback photo of Kate, 51, clamping her hand over Collin’s mouth.
In addition to Collin, Kate and Jon, 49, are the parents of his sextuplet siblings — Aaden, Joel, Alexis, Hannah and Leah — and 25-year-old twins Cara and Madelyn.
Their family starred in the TLC reality show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” which was rebranded to “Kate Plus 8” after the couple’s divorce, from 2007 to 2017.
The following year, Jon was granted sole custody of Collin, with Hannah later moving in with her dad as well.
Collin has since repeatedly made headlines for blasting his mom with claims of alleged “child abuse and child exploitation,” from being zip-tied and locked in a basement to being institutionalized.
Kate has repeatedly denied her child’s abuse claims.
Madelyn, meanwhile, defended her mom in 2023 by accusing Collin of “physical violence” and “hate speech” — which her brother and dad have denied.
While his childhood was “broadcast to millions,” Collin told Us Weekly on Tuesday that “much of [what went on] was deliberately kept hidden.”
He told the outlet, “Finally, I’m sharing what was really happening behind the scenes. This book is about truth, survival, resilience and finding my voice after years of being silenced.
“If my story helps even one person feel less alone or gives them the courage to tell their own, then every difficult page was worth writing,” Collin continued.
He elaborated on previously keeping his experiences private, explaining, “I was afraid. … I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And … I just wasn’t ready.”
He added, “Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life, but it also gave me something I’ve been searching for for a long time: my voice. This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived.”
Jon proudly posted pre-order links to the book via Instagram Stories, while Kate has yet to post about the upcoming release on social media.
Reps for Jon and Kate did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
