Gwyneth Paltrow claps back at controversy over viral dinner invite for OpenAI’s Sam Altman
Gwyneth Paltrow had a cheeky response to backlash over the dinner she’s allegedly hosting for OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman.
After the Puck newsletter published the alleged invitation on Thursday, the Goop creator, 53, shared multiple copycats via Instagram.
“Gwyneth Paltrow invites you to a private, off-the-record al fresco dinner at her home,” the invite began, as did the original.
However, instead of being held “in honor of Sam Altman,” Paltrow’s versions subbed in fictional characters, including M3GAN, Samantha Jones, Shrek, Jessica Rabbit and Chanty Beluga.
“We’re serving swordfish burritos, cheddar foam lattes on request,” the actress captioned the social media upload.
Paltrow’s followers questioned whether the clapback means she isn’t hosting the 41-year-old billionaire, who co-founded the company — which owns the ChatGPT chatbot — with 10 other people, including Elon Musk, in 2015.
According to Thursday’s report, the meal was set to be held at her Amagansett, New York, home on Aug. 29, with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner 45 minutes later.
Other netizens claimed the “damage control [wasn’t] controlling much babe,” with one asking, “Net worth of $200million and this is the best your PR team could do??”
The initial news angered fans, with many social media users dubbing Paltrow “disappointing.”
“lol this new era where gwyneth’s not even trying to hide being a villain anymore like f–k off,” one person tweeted.
Paltrow’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The “Shakespeare in Love” star, notably, also found herself under fire in June when she did a commercial for luxury properties in an Israeli city 50 miles from the Gaza Strip.
Colin Firth’s ex-wife, Livia Giuggioli, hit out at the Oscar winner in a scathing Instagram rant over the “completely unacceptable” ad.
“You’re either so detached that you need to be canceled — because you live in another world — or you’re actually a really, really nasty person,” she said at the time. “Or you are stupid. Which three [are you], Gwyneth Paltrow?”
Paltrow never responded to the controversy — but a source told us she was “taken aback” by the heat she received.
