Alexis Bledel is teasing her celebratory audiobook narration of Tuck Everlasting.
The 43-year-old actress is narrating the audiobook to a special 50th anniversary edition of Natalie Babbitt’s classic children’s novel Tuck Everlasting. On Thursday, July 31, Macmillan Audio released a teaser video of the actress recording the audiobook.
The short clip included the Gilmore Girls alum introducing herself before reciting one of the novel’s more memorable sentences: its first paragraph.
The Newbery Honor-winning book was originally published in 1975. It tells the story of Winnie Foster, a young girl who learns of the power of immortality after she meets the Tuck family, who live forever after drinking from an enchanted spring.
Bledel starred in the 2002 film adaptation as teenager Winnie Foster, who meets Jonathan Jackson’s Jesse Tuck, a boy with a huge secret and who is different from anyone she’s ever known.
The famed novel has been recognized as a classic of modern children’s literature and has sold over 10 million copies since its publication.
“It has been an amazing experience to revisit this world,” Bledel previously said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “Tuck Everlasting holds a special place in my heart, having played Winnie Foster in the film many years ago.”
“Narrating this beloved story for its 50th anniversary edition is a wonderful journey back into a tale that challenges us to think about what it truly means to live a meaningful life,” she added.
“[Tuck Everlasting is] a timeless piece that continues to inspire, and I’m thrilled to bring this magical narrative to life for a new generation of listeners,” Bledel said.
In addition to the new audiobook, a special 50th anniversary print edition of the novel, along with an original graphic novel by K. Woodman-Maynard, will also be published simultaneously.
