Andrew Garfield details ‘miserable’ experience filming peasant war film ‘The Uprising’

Andrew Garfield pulled back the curtain on his “miserable” experience filming “The Uprising.”

The actor clarified to “SmartLess” podcast listeners Monday that doing the Paul Greengrass-directed movie, which depicts England’s 1381 Peasants’ Revolt, was the “best possible” kind of misery.

The Golden Globe winner reflected on filming in Munich last year alongside Tommy Hollander, Jamie Bell and more co-stars.

“We were shooting because there’s a lot of medieval architecture still in in in Germany, weirdly,” Garfield recalled. “We were mostly in a one field in Munich that was being doubled for a lot of different peasants fields in Munich. It was miserable.”

Co-host Jason Bateman quipped, “That sounds like a very uncomfortable shoot. A peasant war film. I’m not imagining a lot of luxury on that one.”

Garfield, who could be heard laughing, joked that “Chuck Schumer [was] definitely not waiting for him on a yacht on any kind of port” after wrapping shooting.

He went on, however, to rave over the director as an “incredible filmmaker.”

The Emmy nominee called Greengrass, 71, “one of those team captains that kind of makes you want to suffer for him … because he’s driving.”

Garfield’s comments come on the heels of online backlash over his hopes that billionaires are “scared s–tless” of the project.

During a Los Angeles film screening Thursday, the Tony winner said he wanted the movie to be “galvanizing” to audience members.

“I hope there’s some awakening that people feel … that we all feel like our own struggles are being reflected in the struggles of these characters from a distant time and place and that it could be directive,” he said.

Spencer Pratt, the “Hills” alum and former candidate for mayor in Los Angeles, blasted Garfield’s statement via X.

“You mean … like the billionaires who greenlight your movies and stroke all your multi-million dollar paychecks? Or they good?” the former reality star, 43, tweeted.

“Ironically, Garfield just got paid like $5M for playing billionaire Sam Altman in ‘Artificial,’” Pratt added.

Garfield has yet to comment on the controversy.
