Bad Bunny hits back at Super Bowl halftime show critics in ‘SNL’ monologue
Bad Bunny hit back at the people who criticized him for being selected to headline the Super Bowl 2026 halftime show.
“You might not know this, but I’m doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show. And I’m very happy and I think everybody’s happy about it,” he said during his “Saturday Night Live” monologue.
“Even Fox News!” the Puerto Rican rapper quipped.
The NBC comedy sketch show then cut to a montaged clip of different Fox News hosts saying, “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician and he should be the next president.”
“I’m really excited to be doing the Super Bowl, I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy,” the “Tití Me Preguntó” singer, 31, said before beginning to speak in Spanish.
“Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors,” Bad Bunny said in Spanish.
“It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it,” he added in his native language.
The three-time Grammy winner concluded his monologue in English, saying, “And, if you didn’t understand know what I just said, you have four months to learn!”
Last Sunday, Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, announced he would be the headliner for the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, which is slated for Feb. 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
However, the announcement was met with backlash from several people, including Danika Patrick.
On Monday, the former professional racing driver responded to a fan’s tweet that claimed the “King of Latin Trap” was a “massive [President Donald] Trump hater, an “anti-ICE activist” and had “no songs in English.”
“Oh fun. No songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest rated television events of the year… not just for sports,” Patrick, 43, replied.
Alt-right political activist Jack Posobiec took to X to blame “Barack Obama’s best friend Jay-Z” for selecting Bad Bunny as the next Super Bowl halftime performer. (Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, produces the Super Bowl halftime show.)
Bad Bunny has frequently criticized the Trump administration and the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Ahead of the 2024 presidential election, the “Monaco” hitmaker endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.
