Craig Melvin, Al Roker granted protective orders against crazed ‘Today’ show intruder

Craig Melvin and Al Roker have been granted protective orders against the crazed “Today” show intruder.

A judge issued a protective order on Friday requiring Andrew Truelove to stay away from the morning show hosts, the intruder’s lawyer told TMZ Friday.

At the same time, Truelove was officially charged with a hate crime, with the judge setting bail at $10,000, The Post confirmed.

He faces a count of burglary in the third degree as a hate crime and a count of menacing in the third degree as a hate crime.

As Page Six previously reported, Truelove was arrested Thursday for allegedly breaking into the “Today” show studio and confronting Melvin.

He is accused of slipping past security into an unauthorized area near Studio 1A at 30 Rock around 9 a.m. Thursday.

TrueLove allegedly followed a staffer who used their ID badge to get into the “employee’s only area” from the lobby, the Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Millicent Kastenbaum told The Post.

This allowed him access to the stairwell where he came face-to-face with Melvin and demanded to know Roker’s whereabouts

During the interaction, Truelove took a few steps toward the host and berated him with a racial slur, according to the criminal complaint and sources.

“I always wanted to call a black famous person the N-word,” Truelove allegedly told Melvin, 47, who then called security, leading to the intruder being detained and arrested.

Truelove was being held at Rikers Island as of Friday morning, court records obtained by The Post show.

He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted, and is due back in court on July 22.

Following the terrifying incident, the “Today” show released a statement.

“There was a security incident this morning at the TODAY show studio. An individual entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A. The person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security,” the statement began.

The NBC show confirmed the trespasser “was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident,” and that there was no “altercation” or injuries.

“TODAY is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter,” the statement continued. “NBC and TODAY take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously.”

A source exclusively told us a security guard was fired over the incident.

Melvin bravely returned to Friday’s broadcast of the “Today” show and assured viewers that he is “safe and sound” following the security breach. Roker returned as well.

“I want to take a quick moment to address an incident that happened yesterday,” Melvin said on Friday morning. “You may have heard that unfortunately an intruder made his way into an unauthorized area here at Studio 1A.

“Thankfully he was apprehended quickly,” the journalist continued. “He was placed under arrest. We are cooperating fully with the NYPD as they investigate the matter.”

Melvin concluded, “We are just very happy that everyone is safe.”
