Cristiano Ronaldo’s fiancée Georgina Rodriguez slams body shamers
Cristiano Ronaldo’s fiancée Georgina Rodríguez is hitting back at online chatter about her appearance and embracing her curves.
On Tuesday, the model and influencer posted a carousel of holiday pics — some of her in a bikini — on Instagram with a lengthy message accompanying it.
“My body will change, just as all women’s bodies do. And I hope it continues to do so for many years, because that will mean I am still living,” Rodríguez wrote, according to Instagram’s translation from Spanish to English.
However, she admitted that the criticism stings and makes her question herself.
“Then I wonder… where is the standard? Who decides what the ‘right’ body is? Do we really still think happiness has a size?” she continued, explaining that she exercises because it makes her “happy” and it’s something she’s “passionate about.”
Rodríguez, 32, who shares five children with the soccer player, noted that an online discourse about her figure “happens every summer,” writing, “Every year my body is news again.”
The “I Am Georgina” star explained that as a mother to three girls, she wants to impart important lessons about body image along with Ronaldo, 41.
“The value of a person can never depend on a physicist or on the opinion of strangers,” she wrote. “That little dose of positive psychology that I try to give them every day also helps me to keep my head on in this world of so much fantasy.”
Rodríguez confessed it’s a lesson that she struggles with, recounting a conversation she had with Ronaldo, writing that she told him she was “worried that they’re calling me fat now, because I live in my image.”
“You don’t live by your image,” he replied. “You live by what you are. A perfect woman. Beautiful, with a great body, mother, good person, successful and living life with love. What the hell else do you want?”
The Al-Nassr captain chalked it up to jealousy, telling her, “It’s normal for them to envy you.”
“Sometimes we all need someone to remind us what really matters,” Rodríguez added.
“I love my curves. I love the freedom to live in the body I choose. In the body that holds me, that has allowed me to embrace, create life, fall and rise again,” she wrote. “A body deserving of respect, love and gratitude in all its versions.”
