John Nolan, ‘Batman’ and ‘Person of Interest’ star, dead at 87
John Nolan, most notably known for his roles in “Batman” and “Person of Interest,” has died. He was 87 years old.
Nolan died on Saturday, reports local British outlet Stratford-Upon-Avon Herald. His cause of death remains unclear at this time.
The actor is most recognized for his portrayal of Wayne Enterprises board member Douglas Fredericks in the 2005 film “Batman Begins” and the 2012 movie “The Dark Knight Rises,” which starred Christian Bale.
Nolan also starred as MI6 agent John Greer in the second season of his nephew Jonathan Nolan’s “Person of Interest” in 2013. He additionally worked behind-the-scenes of the series for more than two dozen episodes.
In addition to his famous nephew Jonathan, John is also uncle to equally famous director Christopher Nolan.
He made appearances in two of Christopher’s films: 1998’s “Following,” and the 2017 war movie “Dunkirk.”
Page Six has reached out to reps for Christopher and Jonathan, but did not receive an immediate response.
John’s most recent credit was for a role in 2024 when he starred in an episode of “Dune: Prophecy.”
Prior to making it to the silver screen, John got his start as a theater actor. He studied acting at the Drama Centre in London. He trained for two more years with the Royal Shakespeare Company before landing his big break.
In 1970, he scored a major role as the titular character on the BBC’s “Daniel Deronda” miniseries. He also notably starred in the first two seasons of “Doomwatch” for the BBC as scientist Geoff Hardcastle.
In 1973, he played Nick Faunt on the ITV miniseries “Shabby Tiger.”
John is survived by his wife, actress Kim Hartman, their children, Miranda and Tom, and two grandchildren.
