Randy Jackson sparks concern with major weight loss
Social media users raised concerns after Randy Jackson looked “frail” while making a cameo on “American Idol.”
On the May 4 episode, the former judge, 69, surprised Season 24’s Top 5 by serving as a guest mentor.
Viewers quickly voiced their worries after watching Jackson meet and critique finalists during rehearsals.
“Is Randy Jackson ok? Looks and sounds so weak,” one person penned on X, while a second chimed in: “Randy Jackson does not look well.”
On a Reddit thread, a social media user stated, “Sorry if I missed something about his health but it’s sad.”
Rounding out the distressed remarks, another fan added, “Randy doesn’t look well. He looks weak and frail. He only sat. I hope he is OK!”
However, some audience members weren’t fazed by Jackson’s look, as one person wrote, “It’s been thirteen years since he was a judge, and this is what ‘mid-fifties to late sixties’ looks like for quite a lot of people.”
“My dad is Randy’s age and is getting thin in almost exactly the same ‘this guy’s face looks okay and his body looks okay but OMG where did his neck go’ way. It is sad, and I wouldn’t quite call it ‘normal aging, nothing to see here,’ but it does happen.”
Jackson — who served as a judge on the competition series for Seasons 1-12, before returning as an in-house mentor for Season 13 — was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2002.
“It always happens to somebody else, even though it ran in my family, my dad had it,” he said while on “The Doctors” in 2013. “I never thought it would happen to me.”
A year later, the record producer decided to undergo gastric bypass surgery after weighing more than 350 pounds.
Jackson lost over 100 pounds post-surgery and cleaned up his eating.
“For a long time you see me on TV and people have noticed me in the past and I was struggling with my weight, then I finally got it off by using some pretty drastic measures,” he detailed to People in 2020.
In 2019, the singer had spinal surgery after a back injury.
That same year, Jackson co-founded the nutrition company, Unify Health Labs, to help others with their weight loss goals.
The “American Idol” alum said about his company in 2022: “I’m proud to know that we did something that helps me, that helps everyone else, and takes the guesswork out of it for everybody.”
Jackson confessed to People at the time, “I think if I had not figured it all out, I would’ve gained at least half, if not more, of that weight back.”
