Shakira hospitalized with ‘abdominal issue,’ postpones Peru show: ‘Not in good enough condition to perform’
Shakira — who recently embarked on her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” world tour — has been hospitalized with an “abdominal issue” forcing her to postpone her show in Peru.
“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,” she wrote in a statement shared to X Sunday.
“The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.”
Shakira, 48, added that she was “very sad” about the postponement as she had been “looking forward to reuniting” with her “incredible fans” in Peru.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” hitmaker shared that she’s hopeful she’ll be feeling better by Monday to be released and return to the stage.
“My team and the promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you. Thank you all for your understanding, I love you all. Shak,” she concluded.
The Grammy winner also shared the same statement in Spanish via X.
Shakira, who kicked off her tour at Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro last Tuesday, Feb. 11, is scheduled to perform again in Peru Monday.
She is then scheduled to perform five shows in Colombia — three in her hometown of Barranquilla — from Feb. 20 through Feb. 27.
The musician is set to close out the South American leg of the tour on March 8 before she kicks off her Mexico dates on March 12.
When photos of Shakira’s tour first surfaced after her Feb. 11 show, many netizens accused her of “copying” and “plagiarizing” Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” world tour.
One person compared Shakira’s choice to display her name in massive silver letters to Beyoncé using a similar style for “Renaissance.”
Shakira also had a giant metallic wolf on stage, while Beyoncé used a silver horse during her tour.
“the Shakira tour copy/paste is wild. I’m trying not to think too much of it but it’s crazy how the team just redid Beyoncé’s entire process for this,” one fan wrote via X.
Despite the online commentary, Shakira and the “Cuff It” songstress have been pals throughout the years and even collaborated on the 2006 single “Beautiful Liar.”
Shakira took to Instagram on Feb. 12 to express her gratitude for her fans and their response to her tour.
“Rio! I couldn’t have asked for a better crowd to kick off the tour! Thank you for all your love, warmth, and energy on an unforgettable night! São Paulo, are you ready?” she captioned a carousel of photos on Instagram.
