‘Teen Wolf’ star Dylan Sprayberry is a Scientologist after substance abuse battle
“Teen Wolf” alum Dylan Sprayberry announced that he is a Scientologist — and described his “epic experience” — over the weekend .
“I am a Scientologist. I’ve been a Scientologist for three years now,” the actor told his Instagram followers on Sunday. “It’s been so fantastic.”
As for “the original reason [he] got into Scientology,” the 28-year-old explained that it began after he got “clean and sober … off drugs” five years ago.
“Earlier on in my sobriety … I was having this feeling where it’s like, ‘OK, I’m sober now. I’m really proud of myself and I do feel the difference of being off of drugs,’” Sprayberry recalled — but he still felt that the “tons of anxiety and depression” that led to his previous addiction were “still there” and “suppressed.”
He remembered, “It was tough, but I had to confront it. … I had ignored it and numbed myself to it for 10 years.”
When the “Man of Steel” star began “looking for solutions,” he was introduced to the Church of Scientology.
“The first thing that you do as a Scientologist — when you start doing your services — is something called the purification rundown,” he said, calling this “a detox program that gets drugs and toxins out of your body for good.”
In addition to the “fun” program, Sprayberry credited L. Ron Hubbard’s book “The Way to Happiness” with opening his eyes to creating his own joy.
“I had a huge realization — which sounds so silly to say now — but it was that happiness is not something that I have to get,” he said.
“It’s something that I create within myself,” Sprayberry continued. “I’ve been creating my state of being all this time. The whole reason I was depressed and anxious and all that stuff was because I was not being that person who creates happiness for myself.”
Sprayberry — who is expecting his first baby with his wife, Pruette Karl — emphasized that he is “doing great” now.
“I just wanted to share that with you guys because it’s been such a special experience for me,” he concluded. “I’ve gotten to get myself in such a good place in life, and I’m doing genuinely fantastic.”
Sprayberry told his more than two million followers that he would share the book’s link in his bio for those who have “interest” in its message.
Sprayberry rose to fame for playing the young Clark Kent in the 2013 blockbuster “Man of Steel.” He also became a fan-favorite portraying Liam Dunbar on the MTV hit series “Teen Wolf” from 2014 to 2017.
Other celebrity Scientologists include Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kirstie Alley and more A-listers.
