‘The Wire’ star James Ransone’s autopsy reveals tragic new details about his death
Tragic new details regarding James Ransone’s death reveal the actor didn’t leave behind a suicide note before his death by suicide last year.
According to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s autopsy report, Ransone stated he “wanted to kill himself” and needed to be transported to the hospital, reports TMZ.
While there wasn’t a note, prescription drugs were discovered on the scene when he died.
Ransone was also discovered with ligature marks around his neck — which is consistent with the manner of his death as suicide by hanging.
At the time, officers who responded to the scene said they found no signs of foul play.
Page Six has reached out to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office, but did not immediately receive a response.
“The Wire” star died in Los Angeles in December 2025. He was 46.
He shared two children with his wife, Jamie McPhee: son Jack, 7, and daughter Violet, 5. He tied the knot with McPhee in 2017.
In the most recent update, Ransone’s widow shared a May Instagram post celebrating Jack’s 7th birthday as she thanked her friends and followers for their support during the difficult time.
She described Jack as “the most handsome, stubborn, funny, affectionate, strong boy,” adding, “We wouldn’t want it any other way. Love you to the moon and back!”
McPhee continued, “And to all of our friends and family – it takes a village indeed. We love everyone so much. Thank you for all your support, love, kindness, food, tears, and laughs these last 5 months.”
At the end of her post, McPhee said she “can finally see that every day is a gift” after losing her husband.
“So on this one we celebrate Jack together,” she added. “Thank you thank you thank you.”
