Watch moment James Handy’s suspected killer is arrested
Footage of Michale Gledhill, the suspected killer of actor James Handy, being arrested has emerged.
In footage obtained by TMZ on Friday, a cuffed Gledhill — the son of Handy’s girlfriend Wendy Gledhill — is seen standing near a police vehicle as authorities search his pockets and pat him down.
The alleged murderer is wearing a long sleeved shirt and dark pants, and appears calm throughout the interaction.
Other Ring camera video obtained by the outlet shows Michael, 44, walking on the sidewalk past nearby residences following the alleged stabbing of the “Top Gun: Maverick” actor.
Helicopters can be heard hovering as he continues his neighborhood walk.
Michael — who lived with his mother and Handy — called 911 with an eerie confession following the longtime character actor’s stabbing on Wednesday.
According to audio obtained by People, a person told 911 operators, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
The “Real McCoy” actor was then discovered unconscious in the front yard of his home in Tarzana, suffering from a stab wound to his chest.
After paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department transported the actor to a nearby hospital, Handy was pronounced dead.
Michael, meanwhile, was charged with one count of murder following his arrest, and is reportedly being incarcerated at Van Nuys Jail, with a bail amount of $2 million.
Per a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department, prior to his arrest, Michael “flagged down nearby responding officers, telling them he was the one they were looking for.”
The statement noted that “the suspect resides at the location with his mother, who is the victim’s girlfriend.”
They added that they “believe this is an isolated incident and there appears to be no danger to the public.”
On Friday, Wendy, 76, spoke out on the tragedy from her home in Tarzana, saying that she’s “just trying to make it through one day at a time, a minute at a time.”
She told the California Post that she “loved James and my son” and “can’t believe” her son was responsible for the alleged stabbing death.
Prior to going back inside the house, Wendy said, “I’m just trying to …” before trailing off.
Also on Friday, Wendy told TMZ that her son was diagnosed with schizophrenia last July, but had stopped taking medication for the condition “about a week” before the stabbing incident.
And though she claimed the actor and her son “didn’t always see eye-to-eye,” they had a “generally cordial” relationship.
Speaking to Handy’s family, per TMZ, she said through tears, “They know I loved him so much. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry this happened. I’m still in shock. I still can’t comprehend it.”
Little is known about the “Jumanji” actor’s private life — his last film was 2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick,” and his final public appearance took place at the Whitefire Theatre in Los Angeles in 2017.
