Dermott Mulroney jokes about ‘research’ for threesome-loving ‘Hunter Wives’ character
Dermot Mulroney had a blast playing his ménage à trois-loving “Hunting Wives” character.
Mulroney, who plays a lecherous oil tycoon eyeing a Texas gubernatorial seat on the hit Netflix show, laughed off Page Six’s query about threesome-based research.
“Oh, you’re naughty!” the 61-year-old replied. “That’s the right kind of question.”
Mulroney clarified that he did not do that, ahem, kind of research beforehand, adding that he is thrilled by the response to the show, which has been number one on the streaming platform for three weeks.
“It’s brought so much joy to people already,” he gushed. “So fun to be a part of.”
The series, based on a May Cobb novel of the same name, also stars Malin Akerman, Brittany Snow, Katie Lowes and Evan Jonigkeit.
It is set among an affluent, gun-toting circle with murder, swimsuits and lots of hookups sprinkled throughout.
Mulroney agreed that the project is “campy.”
“I think maybe we haven’t had, like, campy sizzle for a little while,” he noted. “The show just really caught people right in the funny bone, and you know, whatever other bones you want to mention.”
Mulroney’s character Jed Banks’ political affiliation is never confirmed, something that he found “appealing.”
“It’s intentionally nuanced even though the show is really, in some ways, over the top,” the “Young Guns” star explained. “It’s just a great way to get across any kind of social commentary.”
Hopefully, we’ll see even more of Mulroney in the future, with the recent news that a sequel to his 1997 rom-com “My Best Friend’s Wedding” is in the works.
“My hope is as strong as everyone else’s,” Mulroney shared. “But I don’t want to jinx anything. I’d love nothing more.”
The accomplished cellist is also hoping he gets to do some more performing — on a classical music stage with Yo Yo Ma.
“I’ve looked up his schedule and held it up against mine,” he confessed. “It’s a pretty difficult Venn diagram to look at.”
Despite their busy calendars, Mulroney remains hopeful.
“It’s in the stars!” he exclaimed.
