Emma Stone Just Beat This Meryl Streep Oscars Record at Age 37 Thanks to Bugonia

Emma Stone just broke one of Meryl Streep’s Oscar records with a pair of nominations for Bugonia.

On Thursday, Jan. 22, Stone scored a Best Actress nomination for starring in the thriller, and she is also recognized among the film’s producers for Bugonia‘s Best Picture nomination.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stone, 37, is now the youngest woman in history to reach seven Oscar nominations across her career.

Streep previously held that record for women, per the outlet, since she was 38 when she scored her seventh nod in 1988. Still, Streep, 76, holds the record for the most nominations of any actor, 21 total. (She has won three times.)

“Thank you to the Academy for these nominations and to everyone who poured their hearts into Bugonia,” Stone said in a statement on Jan. 22. “None of this exists without our director, Yorgos [Lanthimos]. I am forever grateful for our creative partnership and friendship.”

She continued, “I share this recognition with the beyond brilliant Jesse Plemons and our remarkable cast, crew and producers. To be in the company of all of these incredible nominees is a true honor, and I’m deeply thankful.”

Stone earned her first nomination, Best Supporting Actress for Birdman, in 2015. She went on to win Best Actress for La La Land and for Poor Things, and, between those victories, earned another nomination for her supporting turn in The Favourite. As a producer on Poor Things, Stone earned a nomination for its Best Picture nod too.

Other Oscar records were shattered on Jan. 22 when nominations were announced.

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners scored 16 total nominations, including Best Picture, breaking a record for the most nominations for a single film ever. The previous record holders were Titanic (1997), La La Land (2016) and All About Eve (1950), which each had 14 total.

And with his nomination for Marty Supreme, Timothée Chalamet became the youngest actor since Marlon Brando to receive three Best Actor nominations. The star, 30, is also acknowledged among the producers in Marty Supreme’s Best Picture nomination.
