Keith Urban fights back tears singing breakup ballad as ex Nicole Kidman moves on with rumored new romance
Keith Urban became emotional while singing about an ex “moving on” amid rumors his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, is dating a new man.
Urban fought back tears while performing his song “We Go Back” at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City on Friday night, according to a video obtained by the Daily Mail.
“This song is about a guy and a girl growing up in a small town,” Urban told the crowd, adding, “They were the first of their friends to fall in love. They had a good thing going, until the guy screwed it up. I will do that.”
The “Somebody Like You” singer explained that “years and years go by” before they finally reunited.
“This guy can’t believe it. He sees the girl, she looks exactly the same. They start talking, they are getting along great. She tells him she’s got somebody else,” he said.
Urban dove into the chorus of the song, telling fans the lyrics are as follows: “I know I never should have let you go. I was young and dumb, and I messed it all up bad.”
‘”You tell me that it’s too late now, ’cause there’s somebody new around. But what we’ve got is the one thing you’ll never have. We go back.”‘
Urban, 58, became visibly more emotional throughout the evening after singing the song from his new “Flow State” album, which debuted in June – five months after he and Kidman finalized their divorce.
In one instance, he was seen wiping away tears while smiling as he crouched down on the stage.
“This is why we keep coming back to Atlantic City,” he told the crowd, which responded with cheers.
Urban and Kidman — who got married in 2006 after meeting a year prior at the G’Day USA gala in January 2005 — announced they were separating in September 2025, with a source telling Page Six at the time that the actress “did not want the separation and was trying to save things.”
The “Babygirl” star, 59, filed for divorce on Sept. 30, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
The former couple finalized their divorce in January and agreed to waive all rights to child and spousal support.
The exes share daughters Sunday, 18, and Faith, 15. Kidman also shares Bella, 33, and Connor, 31, with her first husband, Tom Cruise.
A month later, Page Six exclusively confirmed that Kidman was single. But her solo relationship status didn’t last long.
Last month, the “Big Little Lies” star sparked romance rumors with private equity businessman Michael Reinstein after they were spotted sipping Aperol Spritzes in Portofino, Italy.
A source told Australian outlet New Idea that Urban was heartbroken by the news of their alleged relationship.
He’s absolutely devastated and is going through that feeling of deep loss all over again,” the source told the outlet earlier this month.
Another insider claimed to the Daily Mail that Urban was “relieved that she’s moved on” after feeling guilty for ending their marriage.
As for Urban, he was rumored to have had romantic involvements with singer Karley Scott Collins and his guitarist Maggie Baugh — though both women have denied the speculation.
