Lily Allen vehemently defends ‘West End Girl’ tour from fans feeling ‘ripped off’
Lily Allen vehemently defended her “West End Girl” tour after fans claimed they felt “ripped off.”
An unsatisfied fan took to X Monday to voice their dislike for Allen’s performance, writing, “Lily Allen at The O2: No support act. Arrived on stage at 9:10pm. All wrapped up by 10pm. Not one word to the audience. £86 to sit in the gods.”
The “Smile” singer then snapped back at the unhappy commenter, tweeting, “There is a support act. The show has always been advertised as ‘Lily Allen performs West End Girl.’
“I was a few mins late as my tights were laddered and I had to change them,” Allen continued.
“The show is just over an hour as it’s just the album in its entirety. It’s my artistic choice not to talk to the audience, the fourth wall helps with the storytelling. Most people find it to be effective.”
She ended her reply with, “I don’t want anyone to feel ripped off. Everyone on this tour is really working very hard to give people the best show we possibly can, and I’m extremely proud of it.”
Following Allen’s clapback, the fan responded with a clarification, saying, “To be clear because this is obviously framed in a negative way (my fault). The performance was brilliant — but it can’t be right to charge that much for an hour, late on Sunday night.”
The fan’s criticism comes after the “West End Girl” singer, 41, performed at London’s The O2 on Saturday and Sunday.
The tour — which is based on Allen’s 45-minute-long fifth album — is advertised as a night to “see the singer/songwriter play her brand-new album in its entirety, in the order the songs appear on the record.”
Since its release in October, the album has garnered plenty of attention for addressing Allen’s split from David Harbour in February 2025.
In multiple songs of the album, which was released eight months after their split, she accuses him of cheating.
The “Stranger Things” star responded to the allegations against him, simply telling Variety in June, “Stories are complex.”
Since then, Allen has been romantically linked to author Jonah Freud. The pair were spotted together in Paris earlier this year.
