Olivia Munn admits her mom ‘never met’ John Mulaney before son’s birth

Olivia Munn’s mother didn’t meet John Mulaney until after the couple welcomed their first child.

The actress revealed that her mom, Kim, had not been introduced to her partner until after their son Malcolm’s birth while appearing on Monday’s episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

“So Malcolm was born the day before Thanksgiving and my mom comes, first of all, never met John by this point,” Munn said.

The “Magic Mike” actress, 44, remembered her mom bursting through the door and not even acknowledging the “Saturday Night Live” star, 42.

“She came in, she doesn’t even say ‘Hi’ to John,” Munn laughed.

Munn proceeded to tell the story of how her mom, who loves to make up stories for her own entertainment, made their infant pose with a turkey leg.

“She unzips her suitcase, takes out two frozen turkeys,” Munn recalled. “She says to John, ‘You know, it’s so exciting, in my family with all of our kids, the tradition [is] we put a drumstick in their hand for their first Thanksgiving when they’re a baby.’”

When Mulaney told Munn that her mom planned to continue on the tradition, the “New Girl” alum was utterly confused.

“I was like, ‘That’s not a tradition,’” Munn recalled.

She then proceeded to call all of her siblings to see if they knew what her mother was talking about.

“They said, ‘No, because she’s lying,’” Munn said.

Kim proceeded to place their bundle of joy in Mulaney’s arms and handed the baby a drumstick to hold before snapping the photo.

“She pats [Mulaney’s] hand and goes, ‘OK, new tradition,’” Munn shared, prompting the audience to burst out into laughter at her mom’s jest.

Mulaney and Munn secretly welcomed Malcolm in November 2021 after dating for less than a year.

They continued to grow their family when they welcomed baby No. 2, a daughter named Méi June, via surrogate last September.

The lovebirds became parents of two just 10 days after Munn gave an update on her breast cancer battle.

“I’ve gotten a lot of questions about this and I’ve wanted to make this video for those asking for a while but I’ve been filming, finishing filming, running after a toddler and starting a new medication. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” she captioned a video on Sept. 4.

Munn revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2024 and subsequently underwent a double mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, an oophorectomy and a partial hysterectomy.
