Taylor Swift Jokes About Screaming for ‘100 Percent’ of Knicks Game Before Hall of Fame Ceremony
Taylor Swift has no regrets about losing her voice at the New York Knicks game.
“I got home and was like, ‘You gotta stop screaming, you’re screaming too much, you’re screaming instead of talking, you’re too excited,’” Swift, 36, joked during her speech at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony in New York City on Thursday, June 11, acknowledging her scratchy voice from the night before.
Swift added that she was yelling for “100 percent” of the historic NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, June 10.
“Then I got to witness the amazing performances I saw tonight, and I just kept screaming and I never stopped screaming and this is what you get,” Swift quipped, referring to Sombr, Brandi Carlile, Billy Corgan, SistaStrings and Johnny Rzeznik, who all took the stage on Thursday. “I make no apologies for that — I’ve had a blast.”
Elsewhere in her induction speech, the “I Knew It, I Knew You” singer got emotional while thanking her parents, Scott and Andrea Swift, and her brother, Austin Swift.
“It was easy to choose songwriting over everything else in my life, but it couldn’t have been easy for my parents and my brother to just pick up and move our entire family from Pennsylvania to relocate to Nashville so that I could hone my craft in the songwriting capital of the world,” she said.
Swift continued, “But after making obvious that this was not even remotely a temporary phase their teen daughter was going through, they uprooted their entire lives to move me to Music City. And even though words are supposed to kind of be my thing, I will never be able to express my gratitude to you guys for doing that for me. You’re the reason I’m here tonight.”
One night earlier, Swift sat courtside at the Knicks game with Alana and Este Haim and Mariska Hargitay. The group all rocked celebrity-inspired T-shirts. Swift and Hargitay, 62, twinned in “Stevie Knicks” shirts, while Alana, 34, wore a “Knickelback” tee. Este, 40, rocked a “Knicole Kidman” design. Alana’s representative confirmed to The Cut that she made the baby tees herself ahead of the game.
Swift’s hoarse voice was well-earned after the Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 during Game 4, overcoming a 29-point deficit and having the largest comeback in NBA Finals history. The Knicks will play against the Spurs again on Saturday, June 13, in San Antonio for Game 5.
